Leslie Banas counsels businesses and organizations in business and real estate matters. She represents real estate owners and investors in the development, leasing and purchase of retail, mixed use, office, restaurant and industrial properties. She helps developers acquire, develop, rehabilitate and finance condominiums as well as senior, assisted living, affordable and market rate apartment communities. She has closed over $800M commercial, multifamily and industrial real estate transactions and over $300M mortgage loans, including HUD, Fannie Mae and CMBS loans. The projects in which Ms. Banas becomes involved often include complex financing and incentive packages and tiered ownership structures.
She is also increasingly called on to assist international buyers in navigating North American commercial real estate industry issues when purchasing net-leased retail stores and other commercial property investments.
In addition, Ms. Banas works with clients in the hospitality, manufacturing, professional service and other industries in general corporate and business matters. She is a recognized authority in the structuring and capitalization of limited liability companies and other pass through entities, including private placements and private equity transactions.
She also helps non-profit educational and health care organizations in organizational, governance and business matters. Due to her experience in projects involving rehabilitation of affordable multifamily housing and community redevelopment, she assists in the organization of various types of 501(c)(3) organizations and their participation in joint venture arrangements.
Prior to forming Banas and Associates, Ms. Banas was a partner in the Detroit-based corporate law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn for over 20 years.
